Varmoth


Varmoth is a popular aromatic Kashmiri lentil curry (dal)

Serves: 4 portions

 

INGREDIENTS

· Varmoth (lentil) 200gms

· Skinless split green gram soaked 200gms

· Mustard oil 40ml

· Peeled turnips 200gms

· Chopped onions 160gms

· Fennel seed powder 10gms

· Ginger powder 5gms

· Salt to taste

· Garam masala 20gms

· Cream 100ml

· Salt 20gms

· Kashmiri Red chilli 2pcs

· Kashmiri Red chilli powder 15gms

METHOD

1. Heat mustard oil until it smokes.

2. Cut turnips into medium cubes.

3. Add onions to the pan and sauté. Add Kashmiri red chilies.

4. Add Kashmiri red chilli powder, turnips, fennel powder and dried ginger powder and mix well.

5. Add the lentils and salt, cook until one boil, and then simmer on low flame.

6. Serve hot.
