Gujarati Khichdi


A healthy one-pot rice & lentil dish served with kadhi and buttermilk. It is also known as sada khichdi.

Serves: 4 portions

 

INGREDIENTS

· Rice 200gms

· Split green moong dal 200gms

· Ghee 5gms

· Clove 7-8pcs

· Hing 5gms

· Turmeric powder 5gms

· Salt to taste

· Water As required (usually 5 times the volume of rice dal mix)

METHOD

1. Mix the rice and lentils and rinse them thoroughly. Keep them soaked in water for half an hour.

2. In a pan, heat ghee and let it melt.

3. Keep the flame on low. Add cloves, hing, and then water.

4. Add salt and stir well. Bring the water to a boil.

5. Pour the rice and lentil mixture in the pan.

6. Let it boil on high flame.

7. Add turmeric powder and stir.

8. Stir continuously.

9. Serve hot with Gujarati kadhi.
