Batata Vada


Batata Vada is a popular Indian vegetarian fast food in Maharashtra, India. It literally means potato fritters. The potato is deep fried with spices, and served hot with chutney. It is best accompanied with a soft pav popularly known as the vada pav.

Serves: 4 portions

 

INGREDIENTS

· Boiled Mashed Potatoes 400Gms

· Green Chilies Crushed 10Gms

· Garlic Cloves Crushed 5Gms

· Mustard Seeds 4Gms

· Hing 2Gms

· Turmeric Powder 10Gms

· Curry Leaves 2Gms

· Chopped Coriander Leaves 20Gms

· Oil 200Ml

For the Batter:

· Besan 250Gms

· Red chili powder 15gms

· Ginger garlic paste 25gms

· Water as Required

· Salt to Taste

METHOD

1. Heat oil in a pan. Once the oil gets hot, add mustard seeds, curry leaves and hing.

2. Sauté for a minute and then add garlic, green chili crushed, and turmeric powder.

3. Pour this tempered mixture on mashed potatoes.

4. Mix well and then make small sized portions from the mixture.

5. In another mixing bowl combine besan,and the batter ingredients. The batter should not be very thick.

6. In a pan heat oil for deep frying the vada.

7. Once Oil Is Hot, Reduce To Medium.

8. Dip the vada in the batter and coat them from all sides.

9. Drop the coated vada into heated oil and fry till golden brown.

10. Serve with fried chilies and dry garlic chutney.
